The Challenges of Recruiting

10 Random Thoughts:
- It is true - things within the recruiting landscape have changed and are very different. Not right or wrong, just different. The transfer portal has changed the game. It has most certainly taken more opportunities away from high school players. There are simply not as many spots for high school players since many college coaches are deciding to rely on the Portal.Less spots mean less opportunities.
- Do not play the comparison game. Your journey is your journey. Recruiting is different for every playerand that is okay. Have a plan and develop your plan and your timetable.
- Decide who is in your circle - who you can trust to guide you in the right direction. Who has your best interest at heart. Many people want to "help" you - it is more than likely coming from a good place but they are not going to college with you. Make sure it is YOUR choice.
- Know the NCAA rules - when can coaches talk to you? Call you? Watch you? When can you visit? Know terminology and definitions - official visits versus unofficial visits, evaluation period vs. quiet period, etc.
- When you are 'offered' a scholarship, do not be afriad to ask what that means. The answer will be very different for each school.
- Academics are still extremely important. Learn about eligibility. Make academics part of the discussion.
- If you have D1 opportunities, understand and ask questions about each school's NIL process.
- Take visits! Go and see the school. It is important to know and see where you are playing, where you go to class, where you eat and sleep. Everything looks good on the internet - go see for yourself. Have a list of question ready for the head coach and bring them.
- Don't just settle because if you don't like it "I'll just transfer." Commitment, growth, and a sense of home and connection matter.
- Know what coaches are looking for in JULY. Intangibles matter in July, you can get exposure or get exposed - know the difference.
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS - LET’S TALK ABOUT IT! REACH OUT AND LETS SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
- High school players, let's map out your journey and see where I can help with your plan.
- AAU coaches let talk about how I can assist your team in preparation for JULY with a simple discussion in person or on zoom
- College coaches I can help make you ELITE Camps even more informative with the right message to your campers and recruits
